The sample of the saliva is added to the compound and this compound is broken down by the bacteria, which lets us know the presence of the bacteria in the sample, which is the causative agent of bad breath.  These tests really help to identify the different causes of bad breath and helps determine as to what kind of treatments or remedies can be taken to take care of it.
 
Before I conclude the article, I would also like to share another method, which helps to determine the compounds that are the culprit to cause bad breath, it is chemiluminescence.  The way it works is that the sample, which contains the sulfur compound is mixed with the mercury compound, which results in a reaction that gives fluorescence.  This test is more specific and sensitive than the Halimeter.
