How To Choose The Right Toothpaste and Toothbrush for Bad Breath

Proper brushing techniques, coupled with using the right toothpaste and toothbrush, are the keys to good dental care. By ensuring that your oral hygiene are well taken care of, you will have less chances of suffering from bad breath.

Choosing Toothpaste
When choosing the correct toothpaste for bad breath, it is essential to ensure that the ingredients in the toothpaste contain fluoride as this works well to fight plaque and cavities which cause bad breath. It is a matter of preference when deciding to get a paste or gel which is with or without flavorings. For most people, keeping to the big name branded toothpastes should be fine.

Brushing Technique
There is a correct brushing technique to be followed in order to remove plaque and the harmful film of bacteria that grows on the teeth which can cause decay, gum disease and bad breath. For this reason, toothpaste hould contain fluoride, as it makes the entire tooth structure much more resistant to tooth decay and promotes remineralization. This helps to repair early tooth decay before the damage can in actual fact even be seen. Toothpaste also helps to freshen bad breath whilst leaving your mouth feeling fresh and feeling smooth.

By brushing your teeth at a 45 degree angle towards the gum line and brushing the front, back and in between your teeth with a peanut sized blob of toothpaste with create the foam which is needed to cover all of your teeth. Brushing for three to four minutes is recommended, twice daily, in the morning and in the evening before going to bed.  This will ensure that your teeth and mouth are cleaned sufficiently in order to control bad breath.

Choosing Toothbrush
Many toothbrushes are made up of approximately 2,500 bristles which are grouped into tufts. The tufts are folded over a metal staple and forced into pre cored holes in the head of the toothbrush and fixed into place. The best toothbrushes to look for are those with round ended bristles which have a medium texture.  It is important that the head of the toothbrush be small enough so that it can reach the back teeth with comfort, as this is where food particles and plaque will be present which will result in bad breath if not receiving the correct cleaning.

It is recommended to change your toothbrush every three month, or when the bristles loose their shape. It is also essential to change your toothbrush after you have had a cold or an illness, as bacteria can be present in the toothbrush itself.

Electric toothbrushes are rapidly becoming  more popular. Recent studies also show that using an electric toothbrush is better than a normal toothbrush. They offer improved cleaning along with the better removal of plaque and any stains that you may have on your teeth. Many electric toothbrushes also have a buzzer built into them, so that they buzz or vibrate after they have been used for two minutes. Plus it is not possible to use more toothpaste than necessary as they have a much smaller head than those of manual toothbrushes.

Children have become more inclined to use electric toothbrushes as they are seen as being a novelty and due to their superb cleaning efforts, your child’s teeth will be better looked after than if using a manual toothbrush.
