Tips on Using Zinc as a Treatment for Bad Breath

Bad Breath ReportThere has been much talk in the past few years about using zinc as a treatment for bad breath.  Many oral hygiene products containing zinc have popped up on the shelves of most pharmacies, and there are many homeopathic treatments that also incorporate this element in their halitosis treatments.  But how can you go about using zinc as a treatment for bad breath, and does it really work?

Many new mouthwashes incorporate zinc in their formulas as this element seems to attack the germs and bacteria that actually cause bad breath.  Zinc also acts as a natural moisturizer in the mouth.  When considering using zinc as a treatment for bad breath, you can certainly try one of these mouthwashes for yourself.  You can use it as you would any other mouthwash, and simply rinse or gargle after you brush.  It also helps to use this product after brushing in order to wash away any food particles that you've missed when brushing and flossing.  There really is not much of a difference in the use of a zinc-based mouthwash than there is a regular one, although you may want to rinse your mouth with water after using it.

Another way that some have been using zinc as a treatment for bad breath is as a supplement.  Zinc supplements are part of a multi-vitamin or can be taken on their own.  These supplements neutralize acid in the stomach that causes foul breath odor.  When using zinc as a treatment for bad breath in this way, be sure that you don't take any more than the recommended dosage.  Even though this is a natural element, you can take too much and have problems from too much zinc in your system.

Many have had success from using zinc as a treatment for bad breath, and appreciate the fact that it's a natural element that has few side effects or considerations.  It does not interact with other medications the way some harsh halitosis treatments do, and of course is relatively affordable.  Of course, if you have questions about using zinc as a treatment for bad breath, it's always a good idea to approach your dentist or doctor about this treatment.  He or she can accurately diagnosis just why it is that you have bad breath and recommend zinc as a treatment option or not.
