Can a Sore Throat Cause Bad Breath?

Believe it or not, there are many reasons why a sore throat causes bad breath, but this condition is actually easier to remedy than some might think.  Why are the two related, and what can you do about it?

There are a couple of reasons why a sore throat causes bad breath.  One is that very often when a person has a sore throat it's because of a sinus problem that then causes them to breathe improperly.  When you breathe improperly you can easily dry out your mouth and this causes bad breath because germs and bacteria get stuck to your teeth, gums, tongue, and skin inside the mouth.

If you have problems with post nasal drip (a runny nose or mucus in the throat), sinusitis, or consistent sinus infections, you may also have problems with bad breath.  In those cases, your sore throat causes bad breath because you are breathing through your mouth and drying the inside of it.

Other reasons why your sore throat causes bad breath include the bacteria and germs that may be building up because of your sore throat.  If you have a throat infection this means bacteria in the mouth that is being expelled through your breath.

Remember too that a sore throat can be a sign of something more serious such as acid reflux disease, a bowel obstruction, or another digestive disorder.  In these cases, your sore throat causes bad breath because stomach acids are regurgitating back up all the way to the mouth, or the buildup of bacteria you have in your system is being carried out through the breath.  This is another reason to consider why your sore throat and bad breath might be a symptom of something more serious that should be addressed by a physician.

When your sore throat causes bad breath you may not be able to fix this with brushing and flossing the way you can other causes of bad breath.  You need to address the problem of why your throat is sore, and be sure that you are not neglecting your oral hygiene either.

Be sure to keep yourself hydrated so your body can heal easier, and be sure to rinse your mouth as well.  This can help to address those odors that are lingering because of bacteria buildup.  And don't hesitate to ask your doctor for a recommendation in order to address your problem either.

Here's one testimonial from one of their satisfied customers.
I never knew that my toothbrush had over 100 million germs on it. I'm not necessarily a germ freak, but when you read the articles and you hear about everything that is left on your toothbrush and them you're putting that toothbrush back in your mouth... People don't sanitize their toothbrushes because they don't know. After trying the Germ Terminator, people would say the same thing that I do, "Its easy, its convenient, why not use it after you know the research?" I think people should definitely sanitize their toothbrushes because of all the germs that just keep building and building up on your toothbrush. Using the Germ Terminator just makes sense.
